A panel discussion on returning to Creativity and Photographic Art with special guest Ian Ruhter presented by CAPIC (The Canadian Association of Image Creators) Vancouver Chapter.
We have a diverse powerhouse group that collectively represents about 100 years of photographic experience! Each member has come from different training, vastly different areas of the commercial assignment world and has pursued a different form of their artistic expression and passion.

At City Hall, Dave’s supporters, including Grand Chief Stewart Phillip, will deliver a letter to the Mayor’s office that requests a meeting and a response to hunger strike demands. At this time, Dave will make a presentation and be available for questions. Also, learn about Dave’s weight and health as he enters his third week without food.

There is a lot going on in the DTES these days and people are willing to work together on a platform of common ground that does not leave out the poor man. How can this be done? Well, campaigns like this are just as important as all the political rallying going on to prepare us for the provincial elections. On a political level we must hand the wishes of the community over to the Mayor and Council and expect them to be respectful of the wishes of the community and follow the plan of development without displacement. So far so good… march on, perhaps stop and think for awhile?

Stolen sandwich boards, smashed windows, customers being accosted and intimidated outside restaurants, reading the newspapers these days one can’t help but ask “What’s this city coming to?”
There’s more to the story than this though.
Come learn how DTES residents, businesses, social enterprises and community orgs are coming together in the Downtown Eastside to collaborate on keeping our streets safer and cleaner. Why? Because we care about one another and we have community pride.This free information session and networking event will take place Wednesday April 3rd at 5:30 PM at Lost and Found Cafe, 33 W Hastings Street.
Presentations will be given by:
Mission Possible (MP Neighbours)– regarding the innovative community safety patrols that have been creating jobs for residents with barriers to employment. The team at MP Neighbours liaise regualarly with businesses, residents, visitors to our area and the City about safety trends and provide a culturally appropriate alternative to more heavy handed types of security. You’ll hear some heartfelt examples of a regular day on the job and see some incredibly insightful data about the area.
Judy McGuire, Executive Director, Inner-City Safety Society– about the research and projects that the Safety Society is engaging in over the year to come. From disaster preparedness to Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design, the ICSS is concerned with the safety, preparedness and wellbeing of those who live and work in the DTES.
Constable Wes Fung, Vancouver Police Department– Come hear Wes Fung’s perspective on crime and safety in the area. Wes has served the community for several years and has a wealth of insight from an officer who has seen it all.
