AHA MEDIA is very proud to do visual documentation for the upcoming Carnegie Alley Health Fair on Tuesday April 21st – 11am to 3pm in Vancouver DTES
On
Tuesday April 21st, 2015 Vancouver’s DTES celebrates it’s 7th Alley Health Fair. From 11am -3pm organizations and services providers in Vancouver’s DTES gather together to connect, promote health and wellness, and educate participants about services available in Vancouver’s DTES. This is a City of Vancouver “Homeless Connect” event.This year the event will be held on the 400 block of Columbia Street (between Hastings & Pender), due to the renovation and construction along Hastings 100 block and the original alley.

AHA MEDIA and Fearless City Mobile films people’s thoughts of Story Box projects at W2 Storyeum in Vancouver Downtown Eastside
At the heart of the City’s Great Beginnings Initiative is the desire to go back to its roots and give each of the founding neighborhoods something to talk about. In one such community, the DTES Story Box Project highlights its rich and storied cultural diversity through oral and written tradition. Unique object/artifact boxes illustrate stories from various voices which are intermingled to create a new and visceral experience.
The Storybox Project at the Surge Festival is the sensational finish to a process that involved over eighty members of DTES community based writing groups who developed their individual stories utilizing personal artifacts as inspiration and illustration. The manifold stories held common threads bound to universal themes. StoryBox at Storyeum presents five such themes as representative of the powerfully spoken words by the most demo-diverse voices working in concert with some of Vancouver’s brightest lights in media arts.

Downtown Eastside media makers to put on first shadow play

A group of Downtown Eastside media makers will present its first shadow play on Saturday (February 27).
AHA Media will put on Love in the Shadows at the Downtown Eastside Community Arts Network’s art space (67 East Hastings Street) in the Lux hotel.
“AHA MEDIA wanted to present a play with six scenes based on true personal stories about how child abuse, trauma and sexual molestation can lead to some folks unable to deal with issues and may end up in the Vancouver Downtown Eastside trying to cope in a variety of harmful ways,” the group states on its Web site.
“AHA MEDIA believes our play can show the reasons WHY some people end up in the DTES – for the MEDIA, our friends and street folks.”
The show—starring Alvin Clayton, Mike McNeeley, and Richard Czaban—starts at 7 p.m.
