Peggy Kotsopoulos on “Must Have Been Something I Ate” at I Love Heath store in Vancouver
Tonight at I Love Health store we got to hear from a foremost authority on health and nutrition Peggy Kotsopoulos as she described the benefits of Vitamin B12, Iron, and many other nutrients in our diets.
Peggy was able to make for us what she called a Vegatini (a smoothie chock full of nutritional ingredients) and a delicious chocolate mousse (with a pumpkin base).
All very healthy and entirely vegan (no animal byproducts).
Approximately 20 of us were on hand to hear her speech and were rewarded with a taste of some of the delicious things she made. She described the benefits of eating food rich in Tyrosine and Chlorella , as well as describing the powerful sunflower sprouts!
All in all an excellent experience and very encouraging for anyone hoping to lose weight, eat healthy, and restore some energy naturally into their lives.
April Smith of AHA MEDIA is very honored to be a Keynote Speaker at Northern Voice conference 11 at UBC
April Smith and AHA MEDIA will be presenting a Keynote Speech at Northern Voice Conference on Friday May 13, 2011

April is a citizen journalist and co-founder of AHA MEDIA.
“I’m a citizen journalist and co-founder of AHA MEDIA. I have also been involved with W2’s Fearless City Mobile Project – which has presented here at Northern Voice in previous years – and I facilitate social media literacy classes at LifeSkills Centre and Oppenheimer Park. In my teaching work, I encourage and promote peer training to support education in technology.
I believe, if my neighbors in the Downtown Eastside are able to access communication and technology – as people do in other neighborhoods – I feel it will help create positive change. I know this because it’s helped me create a better life for myself.
I work with W2, which is active in this area of breaking the digital divide and believes access to technology and communication is a human right. For those who have been following, W2 is finally opening a 10,000 square foot community media centre at the Woodward’s Atrium. From this fabulous new space, W2 will help people with their digital storytelling, with a crossmedia lab that broadcasts on CJSF and Coop Radieo, and Novus and Shaw Cable, and the internet.
Programs like Fearless City Mobile and this new media centre put technology in the hands of people and will help more people overcome marginalization by connecting people with society and supporting their self-representation. I know this work is important for transforming people’s lives because it’s where I began. This is my story.
I am cheerleader for positive community building and outreach. Through art, music, and community promotion, I am a self-taught advocate for social justice and positive neighborhood unity. This is really important given that the voices of our marginalized groups are usually mediated by others, rarely do we represent ourselves. Out of W2’s Fearless project was born our social enterprise ” AHA MEDIA.”
AHA MEDIA is a small business that supports social justice by creating spaces for people to represent themselves.
My interests are documentation of daily life in the Downtown Eastside, highlighting the positive, while bringing to light the injustices that occur in the neighborhood.
I have filmed observations, both subversive and situational, over the last 3 years.
Using social media, new media, mobile technology, photos, videos and blogs, I concentrate on sharing the stories and voices of the otherwise-silenced inner city community. Through our website AHAMedia.ca we reach our neighbors, reach Vancouverites from other neighborhoods, plus a global audience

The Temple Of Transition is a dream about to be realized in the Black Rock desert. An international crew based in New Zealand, Ireland, UK, America and Vancovuer, BC, Canada. Formally known as the International Arts Megacrew, our primary objective is fundraising to meet the expense of building the temple. AHA MEDIA speaks with Chef Lesley Stowe about her sponsorship of Canadian Women Ski Jumping team for 2014 Winter Olympics
Canadian women ski jumpers set sights on Sochi as IOC approves sport for 2014 Olympics
Crucial sponsorship from Lesley Stowe secures elite coaching and equipment to make team more competitive leading up to the Winter Games
Calgary, AB – Having watched from the sidelines during the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, the Canadian women ski jumpers are now soaring after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced Wednesday that women’s ski jumping is now officially recognized as an Olympic sport and will be included in the 2014 roster of events.
Following a unanimous vote to start a woman’s ski jumping World Cup circuit during the FIS Congress last year and impressive jump results at the most recent competition in Oslo, Norway, Ski Jumping Canada had faith that the IOC would reveal a positive outcome during today’s media conference.
“This is a truly historical occasion for women’s ski jumping,” said Brent Morrice, chairman of Ski Jumping Canada. “Canada has some of the top ranked female athletes in the world and they will finally have an opportunity to display their talent and hard work on an Olympic stage. This couldn’t have happened without the support and much needed funding from sponsors like Lesley Stowe.”
Lesley Stowe, the Vancouver-based owner and creator of the raincoast crisps and self-described skiing enthusiast, became the official sponsor of the Canadian Ski Jumping team two years ago when the organization was severely underfunded and fighting to be competitive leading up to the 2010 Winter Olympics.
“Today is an amazing moment for Canadian women in the sport of ski jumping and I’m honoured to be a part of it,” said Stowe. “From the first competition I attended, I was captivated by the talent, drive and courage the sport demanded and I knew I wanted to help Canada’s teams go the distance.”
With Sochi three years away, the women will now start training for the World Cup circuit in 2012 to prepare for the challenges of international competition. In addition, Ski Jumping Canada has launched a nationwide search for more high-flying female athletes to join the team and train for the Winter Games.
“We already have a very strong team of women leading up to the 2012 World Cup, but are always looking for new talented skiers,” says Ted Bafia, coach of Ski Jumping Canada and three time Olympian. “We have one of the best training and development facilities in the world at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary. Our ski jump hills are situated to accommodate numerous jumps in a short period of time, meaning that the athletes can learn and improve very quickly.”
