PNE – Pacific National Exhibition 2012
Peter of AHA MEDIA says
The PNE, a great institution older than most people in Vancouver. Last weekend I went there with a friend to enjoy the sights (didnt get a ride pass, I get sick on those) and eat those little doughnuts!
We started off eating some food, trying a Deep Fried Mars Bar, sumptuous chicken from Henry’s BBQ, and popcorn shrimp. Great food!
Next was the world-famous Superdogs. From dancing to Frisbee catching, these dogs were awesome. Afterwards, we even got to go down and meet the dogs; there was one dog there bigger than myself, he was massive.
From Superdogs, we went to the animal barns, so many neat animals. From huge cows and Clydesdale horses to tiny rabbits and even smaller bees. The baby ducks were especially cute.
Next stop was the Peking Acrobats who performed many amazing stunts, one of them even stacked 10 (or more, I didnt count but it was a lot) chairs into one giant tower then did handstands at the top, amazing! Unfortunately, after the acrobats,we had to leave.
We did leave with many great memories and some very delicious mini donuts. Speaking of donuts, the stand where we stand there and watch as the machine deep fried the delicious rings of goodness and then they were scooped up by the attendant and bagged for your pleasure. We had 5 bags of them.
See you next year PNE!! 🙂
Surplus Sam’s Customer Appreciation Day on Sept 1, 2012
Peter Davies of AHA MEDIA says
Surplus Sam’s, a store by those who know of it attend it regularly as the prices are rock bottom, the service is awesome, and the staff is friendly and accommodating.
This past Saturday Sept 1, 2012 was the annual Customer Appreciation day where you could get up to 60% off the already low prices and a free hot dog and drink. The lineups to check out were very long but short wait times as the staff were fast and friendly. The weather was perfect, not too hot but very sunny.
I was able to purchase a pair of headphones for a fraction of the price you would see at another store and the only thing wrong with it was that the packaging was damaged.
This place is awesome, I definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a great deal (admit it, everyone loves a good deal).
Surplus Sam’s started in 2002 with our South Burnaby store and a contract with a major retailer/wholesaler to buy up their customer returns, clearance, freight claims, and just about anything they wanted to send us. Since then we have diversified some of our product to include merchandise from bankruptcies and liquidations.
Due to the nature of this business, our merchandise is always changing and often very unique… see something once, you may never see it again… anywhere!
This website represents a very small percentage of the products that can be found in our store, but also has some merchandise from our storage warehouse that can only be found online.
Happy Treasure Hunting!

Rasoee – The Indian Kitchen in Vancouver
AHA MEDIA recently sampled delicious curries from Rasoee – Indian food, fast, fresh & modern.
Peter of AHA MEDIA says:
If you like spicy Indian food that is reasonably priced and you’re in a hurry, Rasoee is the place to go!
We found their food delicious and comes with fresh chopped veggies on top.
We ordered butter chicken and lamb curry (both hot)and our food was ready to go in under 5 minutes (wow).
The prices were reasonable and the staff friendly. The curries were amazing and the naan was delicious and comes in white or whole wheat flavours.
We definitely recommend this place and would go back often.
Just a warning though, if you dont like really spicy food, dont order it hot! 🙂
