Hendrik Beune and April Smith of AHA MEDIA help build a library for Bosman Hotel Community

Old books! New books! Donated books! All for Building a Library!

The Bosman library hasn’t officially open and it’s already a success! There is a wide variety tastes at the the Bosman, with residents  eager to borrow many new books to read.
The most popular book so far is the mighty Dictionary which “weighs a ton!”
Creating an in house library,  is so important because many of the residents are uncomfortable going to a public library. Now Bosman Hotel community residents will be able to enjoy reading material in safe and familiar environment, without the concern of what hour it is or getting the books back on time. Books are available 24/7 for the eager readers!

Below is a video of Hendrik Beune speaking about the beginning of the Bosman Hotel Community library

Recently Richard was asked his opinion of “selling ice cream” without music with Global TV, (upon the subject of the District of West Kelowna’s ban of Ice Cream Truck Music)

Richard Czaban says ” In Vancouver, the kids love the music!  They come running from blocks away! Parents and Grown Ups remember it from their childhood… they get very nostalgic. It makes for a great summer time experience when you can listen to the ice cream truck music while eating cold Rainbow Ice Cream treats”

Phoenix Winter sings in German in Vancouver Downtown Eastside (DTES)

Hendrik Beune and April Smith of AHA MEDIA hear Phoenix Winter sing in German.

Hendrik says:

We are very blessed to have Phoenix Winter as a ‘natural community member’ of the DTES. She used to live here and still spends so much time here, we could never consider her to not be a part of our community!

Phoenix is a performer and an activist and a very good friend! Phoenix is of mixed German and Goan descent and learned this lullaby from her mother when she was a child, just as it had been handed down through generations.

Phoenix performed this song spontaneously when I mentioned my intention to bring something new from the DTES to Vienna, for a visit and presentation that is coming up in June.

We thank Phoenix for being the kind spirit that she is and are grateful for all the talent and caring people that we meet here on a daily basis!

Fair in the Square: Celebrating together in the Inner City

Sunday, May 27th, 11 am – 2 pm

W2 and AHA MEDIA are pleased to be at the 6th Annual Fair in the Square!

Alongside dozens of social enterprises, artists, and community organisations, terrific local bands and musical artists will donate their talents to entertain from the Victory Park stage while a delicious BBQ including cupcakes, beverages and more are served up by the dedicated faculty, staff and students from Vancouver Community College’s Culinary Arts program.

Fair-goers are encouraged to wander the park and visit the tables set-up by a diverse range of social enterprises and neighbourhood non-profit community organizations providing an opportunity to chat and reach out to a network of neighbours, connect with services available, and admire talent coming from the inner city.
All of this is possible with the support of literally hundreds of volunteers who prepare, staff and strike the Fair site in addition to the donation of food, drinks and other goodies from generous corporate partners.
