Garvin Snider thanks Richelle Schmelz who gives back to the DTES In Memory of Nick Healey

Garvin Snider recently met Richelle Schmelz who was giving out food and care packages to the DTES residents to brighten their Christmas season.

Richelle reveals that her son Nick lived with mental illness and recently passed away.

In Loving Memory of Nick Healey, a green ribbon was worn by many volunteers who remembered him fondly.

Richelle Schmelz says from the In Loving Memory of Nick Healey Facebook page

Tomorrow evening we finish putting together 120 care packages for those living on the streets, or just down on their luck. The generosity of people is amazing. Not only their resources , but their time. I know Nick would be proud….he would also bitch like hell about all stuff all over the house as we get ready. Miss him fiercely everyday. Many that we will help this weekend suffer from mental illness or addiction, or both. Looking forward to the smiles we will see. Last year Nick volunteered at the Salvation Army, this year our efforts are in his honour. This will be a very difficult Christmas for so many of us. You are in my thoughts, heart and prayers. Richelle xoxo ps if you are at the Port Moody Arena make sure to see the award in Nicks memory. I had a little help picking it out and it is the nicest one in there.
