AHA MEDIA’s review of The Eagle (2011 film) preview in Vancouver, Canada
AHA MEDIA recently attended the preview of the movie The Eagle in Vancouver, Canada
The Eagle is a film adaptation of the 1954 historical adventure novel The Eagle of the Ninth by Rosemary Sutcliff. Directed by Kevin Macdonald from a script by Jeremy Brock, the film is set in the 2nd century AD and tells of a young Roman officer’s search to discover the truth about the disappearance of his father’s legion in the north of Britain. The story is based on the legend of the Legio IX Hispana (Ninth Spanish Legion) which is alleged to have disappeared in Britain in around AD 117.
The film stars Channing Tatum, Jamie Bell, Donald Sutherland, Mark Strong and Tahar Rahim. Filming began on 24 August 2009 and took place in Hungary and Scotland. The film is a United Kingdom and United States co-production. It will be released on 11 February 2011 in the USA through Focus Features, and on 25 March 2011 in the UK.

A very historically accurate movie along the lines of the movie King Arthur and set almost in the same time period and same local. Channing Tatum plays Marcus Aquilla, a Roman Centurion in 140 AD whose father, 20 years earlier, was a part of the legendary 9th legion who disappeared under unusual circumstances. Channing, alongside his slave (played by a very good Jamie Bell), sets out to find what happened to his father and either bring him and the eagle crest (of the 9th legion) home, or avenge his death and bring honor to Rome. From the flatlands of southern England to the Highlands of Scotland, the views are breathtaking, the people rugged, and the sunsets/sunrises beautiful. We meet the tribe of the Seal people (a relative to the Inuit) and get to see a little of their life and how difficult it was, we also get to see a bit of Roman life after being discharged. All in all a very good movie and well worth seeing.

This Saturday, the Wait is Over!Though it’s doubtful that any of you have been waiting as long for this day as Andrew and I, we hope that you’re equally excited. We can’t wait to finally present the film to everyone and have been overwhelmed by the amount of interest we’ve had so far since announcing the screening a few weeks ago. If you’ve already signed up on our Eventbrite page, great, but if you haven’t don’t despair because you might still be able to get in just by showing up (or join us for the afterparty at W2). We know that there are lots of other great Olympic related events going on that day, but we hope that you’ll include us in your schedule. Here are the details:
We’ll also be hosting our friends from W2, Hope in Shadows, Megaphone Magazine and OpenMedia.ca, as well as raising money for the construction of a wireless mesh network in the DTES Reserved tickets will be held until 15 minutes before showtime and then released on a first come – first served basis. If you miss this screening, keep your ears open for other opportunities throughout the coming year, and we’ll keep you posted as well |
