Come help us kick off the campaign to Save the New Fountain Shelter at our 24 hour Soccer marathon!
This is going to be epic… Kickoff is 7:45 am Thursday April 14th, 2011 and we’ll be going going going until 7:45am the next morning! You’ll find us at the north east corner of the Vancouver Art Gallery, outside (Howe and Georgia). Look for folks in red ‘Support the New Fountain Shelter’ t-shits to sign up to play! There will be warm food and hot cocoa! Come down and join the game (no experience necessary!) or just hang out and show your support. You can even write a letter to BC Housing, the city or the province at our live online letter writing tent. This is a child and family friendly event, at least for as long as they can stay awake! A bit about the New Fountain Shelter: Opened at Christmas in 2008, the New Fountain Shelter, funded for only 27 beds, regularly sleeps close to 40 people night after night. In addition to providing a temporary shelter for Vancouver’s homeless the New Fountain has connected over 300 people to safe, permanent housing and works hard to connect people to the medical and social services they need. BC Housing has announced that funding will not be continued beyond April 30th, after which time the Shelter would be forced to close, putting people back on the streets. See you Thursday everyone!!!! |

The Saint James Music Academy gives young people the opportunity to explore their creative potential, gain self-confidence, get an academic head start, and develop good relationships, all of which will add to their success in life.
At a time when Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside is rapidly changing, we have established a music education program which will remain accessible to children from low-income families.
Saint James Music Academy is located at St James Anglican Church, where teaching space is provided to the Academy free of charge. In providing this space, the church is continuing its 125-year tradition of excellence in music and commitment to its neighbourhood. |
