Hendrik Beune, Director of AHA MEDIA gets a new chair!

March 29, 2009 4 comments

In the next series of photos, Hendrik Beune utilizes his new Director’s chair to engage with the Vancouver DTES community in an artistic and very mobile way.

As we started from Carnegie Centre at Main and Hasting in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside ( DTES), it was  quite something to see the varioius reactions on people’s faces as Hendrik rolled by them on his mobile office chair.  The range of emotions ranged from suprised smiles, shocking glances, warm hearted encouragements to mere indifferences as people walked around him.

We are glad that Hendrik has his European savoir faire as he made he way down to one of our community office spaces! 🙂 We created interactive and mobile art in our area !

We, at AHA MEDIA are about creating community engagements and memories that last a long time! 🙂

In this video, Devon Martin aka Mr. Metro on keys and lead vocalist with other members of Carnegie Centre Theatre Musicians including Sean Gunn on Bass and Lakiano on Drums performing a fantastic rendition of  Superstition in Vancouver Downtown Eastside

What a blessing to be able to hear such amazing music and see fine musicianship during an afternoon jam at Carnegie Centre!

It’s wonderful to be able to discover true talent and part of Canada’s Music Royalty right in our own neighborhood! We are truly lucky !! 🙂

Located at 106 East Hastings by Columbia, its right in the middle of all the action!

Welcome  to Tariq ( the one making the sandwiches  ) and his colleagues for making healthy, delicious and affordable food for the DTES Neighborhood!

Hello world! Our Very First Post online! :)

November 11, 2008 Leave a comment

Welcome to WordPress.com. This is your first post….

Today on Canada’s Remembrance Day 2008… AHA Media is born on WordPress today!

We at AHA MEDIA have never done this before – going online on our very own site that is ! 🙂

We’re a group of Downtown Eastside residents that have been learning about technology from the Fearless City Mobile Project. We are trying to bridge the digital divide!

We were inspired to  form a little group of media makers called AHA MEDIA and we hope to continue doing:

Mobile media production,

Social media event reporting,

Citizen journalism

Project documenation/Archiving

We want to become an active supporting member of all our communities with our new media handheld devices especially with Nokia cameraphones.

We want to give an alternative focus to media representation of the Vancouver Downtown Eastside – we at AHA MEDIA live and work in this area and we hope this site will be a news resource for people to see and hear about us.

We will include personal stories from neighborhood residents and our community engagement/outreach about our growing and changing area to the rest of the world – both online and offline 🙂

Through this site, AHA MEDIA is learning to use social media to help our neighborhood’s social justice, housing and economic issues.

We are excited about learning, growing and working with everyone! 🙂

Thank you very much for your support
