History was made today for our eight lucky Street Soccer players chosen to play for Team Canada against 64 other countries in the world! Downtown Eastside Vancouver was proudly represented today!

The public is invited to the official opening celebration of the redesigned 0.98 hectare Oppenheimer Park. The event will include welcome speeches, BBQ, cake and entertainment.

“Oppenheimer Park has a rich history and is the hub of many community events and celebrations, as well as being the backyard for local residents. Now it’s an even more beautiful green space,” says Park Board Commissioner Sarah Blyth.
The upgrades to the park, which cost approximately $2.5-million, include a new field house and washrooms, universally accessible walkways, children’s playground, sports court with a basketball hoop, horseshoe pitch, patio spaces, picnic tables and seating areas, central lawn area, trees and flowers, sub-surface drainage and a new irrigation system.
