AHA MEDIA films Vancouver Critical Mass Bike Riders on Robson and Burrard Streets

June 2, 2009 Leave a comment

As our urban environment screams for a reduction in pollution, Critical Mass movements around the world lead the way. This event, typically held on the last Friday of every month is where bicyclists and other self-propelled commuters take to the streets en masse.

Critical Mass is a grassroots reclamation of public space — a bike ride and skate — held the last Friday of every month. Bicycles, skateboards, rollerskates, self propelled couches, and any other form of human powered locomotion are all welcomed!

Although this event did not originate as a protest movement many cyclists have adopted this event to ‘reclaim’ the streets and reflect the urgency for environmental care and change.

April Smith’s first film project with Rob Jones – “Industry”

June 1, 2009 Leave a comment

As AHA MEDIA learns more about Media,  we are always seeking to become better in all skill sets 🙂

Recently, April Smith had the amazing opportunities to learn more about video editing with Rob Jones, a Vancouver Music Writer.

Please see his Music Review site at http://www.clippernolan.wordpress.com

With much thanks to Rob Jones and his patience, please view our short film called “Industry”

Using a Nokia N95 cameraphone, April Smith follows a bee’s journey as it follows its instinct to make sweet honey from flowers 🙂

“Industry” is 2 minutes and 15 seconds

Most recently, Vancouver’s Mayor Gregor Robertson and Dr. David Suzuki spoke about “greening” our city and the importance of bees. Even our new Vancouver Convention Centre has beehives on the roof! 🙂

AHA MEDIA hopes that this short film is the first of many great ” Smith-Meets-Jones” Productions to come! 🙂

AHA NEDIA was pleased to be the Media Sponsor of the Vancouver Bloggers MeetUp at the St. Regis Bar and Grill in Vancouver May 28, 2009.

The Regis Room located downstairs at the St. Regis Grill is a very spacious, welcoming room. Food highlights of the evening included the huge plates of  Nachos in which many bloggers took multiple photos to remember.

Chef  Gerry Kleinhout and his friendly kitchen staff  went beyond their normal duties to help secure a power cord for our tech tools to charge which was very much appreciated 🙂

ABSTRACT

Rules, Norms and Web 2.0: Etiquette in an Era of Evolutionary Social [Dis]Organization

Etiquette is frequently seen as a constraining set of behavioral rules, delineating what behaviors are appropriate within a certain social arena and which are not. But in a context of online multiverses, each with its own culture and demographic, what is truly the “right” thing, and how can we know it? Culture clashes and rapid evolution of social norms are ubiquitous in social media: why? What is appropriate etiquette? Is it portable across platforms? What are the ‘right’ kind of rules and norms in an unruly arena such as the online social media world? The participants in this panel will engage in a conversation about what constitutes etiquette, whether or not it relates to a moral imperative, whether it emerges as self-appointed leaders create specific sets of norms and discuss the evolution of etiquette in emergent social media. The implications for codes of behavior and etiquette in Web 2.0 are also discussed.

Many thanks to Chef Gerry Kleinhout’s own personal warm hospitality and attentive staff at the St Regis Bar and Grill helped to make a stress free and successful Vancouve Bloggers MeetUp.

Below is a photo of Chef Gerry Kleinhout graciously giving  April Smith cheesecake after filming an informative evening of social media etiquette. The lucky folks who were able to sample the cheesecake remarked that it was very delicious!
