Date: 12 July 2009
Time: 15:00 – 21:00
Location: Trout Lake Park – south-east corner

Description

It’s sunny, it’s warm, and it’s time for Pivot’s Summer Potluck in Wonderland! Come out and join Pivot staff, board, interns, and volunteers for a relaxed potluck at Trout Lake Park on Sunday July 12th. Mingle with other Pivot supporters, talk social change, play a game of croquet, or just lounge in shade and enjoy the scenery.

We will be sharing the south-eastern side of park with the 15th annual Alice in Wonderland Festival and Mad Tea Party and the organizers are excited about Pivot supporters being part of the festivities.

So bring your rabbit ears and/or top hats and get ready for quite a show – the festival runs from 1 – 5 and the finale includes a performance by the legendary Carnival Band.

To see the festival in action – check out this video from last year: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWXy65GNX5s

Plus! See the new top 40 Hope in Shadows photos and vote for your favourite three!

What: Pivot Summer Potluck in Wonderland
When: Sunday, July 12th 3 – 8
Where: Trout Lake off 19th Avenue (south-east end of the park)
Who: Pivot supporters like you!

What you should bring:

Food: bring your favorite dish to share with everyone – and just so that we don’t end up with 200 different potato salads, send Naila a quick email at getinvolved [at] pivotlegal [dot] com and let us know what you are bringing. We are attempting to make the potluck a paper-plate free event, so please bring something to eat on (ceramic plate, tupperware, etc.) and utensils.

Musical instruments: if you have a musical instrument and feel like playing on a Sunday in the park, please bring it along.

Games: we have the basics – soccer, frisbee, croquet – covered but if you have a game that you really want to share, bring it out.

Costumes: If you want to engage with the festival the possibilities are endless (see the video). Some easy items include: rabbit ears, top hats, face-paint, Alice dresses.

Looking forward to seeing you in the park!

AHA MEDIA is proud to be the Media Sponsor for the Vancouver Bloggers MeetUp at St. Regis Bar and Grill in Vancouver May 28, 2009

AHA NEDIA was pleased to be the Media Sponsor of the Vancouver Bloggers MeetUp at the St. Regis Bar and Grill in Vancouver May 28, 2009.

The Regis Room located downstairs at the St. Regis Grill is a very spacious, welcoming room. Food highlights of the evening included the huge plates of  Nachos in which many bloggers took multiple photos to remember.

Chef  Gerry Kleinhout and his friendly kitchen staff  went beyond their normal duties to help secure a power cord for our tech tools to charge which was very much appreciated 🙂

ABSTRACT

Rules, Norms and Web 2.0: Etiquette in an Era of Evolutionary Social [Dis]Organization

Etiquette is frequently seen as a constraining set of behavioral rules, delineating what behaviors are appropriate within a certain social arena and which are not. But in a context of online multiverses, each with its own culture and demographic, what is truly the “right” thing, and how can we know it? Culture clashes and rapid evolution of social norms are ubiquitous in social media: why? What is appropriate etiquette? Is it portable across platforms? What are the ‘right’ kind of rules and norms in an unruly arena such as the online social media world? The participants in this panel will engage in a conversation about what constitutes etiquette, whether or not it relates to a moral imperative, whether it emerges as self-appointed leaders create specific sets of norms and discuss the evolution of etiquette in emergent social media. The implications for codes of behavior and etiquette in Web 2.0 are also discussed.

Many thanks to Chef Gerry Kleinhout’s own personal warm hospitality and attentive staff at the St Regis Bar and Grill helped to make a stress free and successful Vancouve Bloggers MeetUp.

Below is a photo of Chef Gerry Kleinhout graciously giving  April Smith cheesecake after filming an informative evening of social media etiquette. The lucky folks who were able to sample the cheesecake remarked that it was very delicious!

Who is organizing?

LOCATION, DINNER, DRINKS AND RELATED STUFF ANNOUNCEMENT

I booked the Regis Room downstairs in the St. Regis Grill & Bar (formerly Anducci’s). The St. Regis Hotel is at the corner of Dunsmuir and Granville. It’s directly located outside the Dunsmuir exit of the Skytrain Granville Station, so it’s plenty accesible, and in a downtown location.

I’ve been warned that it might be noisy as the kitchen is right besides the room, but we’ll have to test how things go.

I’ve also been asked whether everybody will want to place dinner orders at the same time. I said that my bloggers were usually very flexible with that.

Drinks and dinner are usually placed on separate bills for each participant (you don’t have to buy dinner OR drinks, but I’ve noticed that many people ask for that, so that’s why I wanted to make sure to hold the meetup at a restaurant/bar).

I hope everyone will like this option. I’m going to be testing different locations through time.

Below is the agenda for the meetup. Starts at 6:00pm (SIX) regardless of when the Meetup.com site says it starts.

Just FYI.
