AND NETWORKING
Thursday November 1, 2pm – 4pm
Community Arts Council of Vancouver
UBC Learning Exchange, 612 Main

This interactive workshop is for staff and social media volunteers working with Downtown Eastside groups involved with community arts. Join CACV Administrator and social media whiz Mary Bennett and meet and network with other individuals and groups. Bring your own laptop, borrow one or just observe and enjoy. A limited number of laptops will be available to use during the session. If you want to borrow a laptop please arrive by 1:45pm. Or arrive even earlier at 1:30pm and enjoy snacks, conversations and connections. Feel free to bring brochures and information about your community arts activities. Founded in 2008 by local artists April Smith, Hendrik Beune, and Al Tkatch, AHA Media previously collaborated with Fearless City Media and has an ongoing working relationship with W2Community Media Arts and various other organizations and individuals in the DTES community. The members of AHA Media describe themselves as “definitely not mainstream media”. Based in Vancouver’s DTES, their style is described as non-invasive and unassuming.

EWMA Studio, 54 E. Cordova

Salima Jamal facilitates a felting workshop at the EWMA Studio. This fun-filled afternoon explores the world of felting, covering the basic techniques and building on these skills. The workshop is hands on and participants will work on a small item. By the end of the workshop you will have a little treasure to take home and enjoy. Snacks and refreshments. Free

EAT RICE, TALK STORY
Tuesday October 30, 7:30pm – 9:30pm
Chinese Cultural Centre Museum & Archives, 555 Columbia

Local Canadian writers of Chinese ancestry share stories about food to nourish our body, spirit and community. The line up of accomplished writers includes: award-winning Evelyn Lau, writer and Poet Laureate of Vancouver; chef Bob Sung who says “Food is my medium”; activist Sid Chow Tan, who grew up in a restaurant in North Battleford, Saskathewan; Chinatown born Larry Wong, whose latest book is Dim Sum Stories: A Chinatown Childhood; and Steven Wong, whose self-published Wong Family Feast is an absolute delight. Steven says “The best medicine is socializing with family and friends.” We agree! An appetizer will accompany each writer’s presentation. Followed by Tea and Q and A!  First come first serve, limited seating. Free
