“With Glowing Hearts” – Screening this Saturday Feb 12, 2011

February 9, 2011 Leave a comment

This Saturday, the Wait is Over!

Though it’s doubtful that any of you have been waiting as long for this day as Andrew and I, we hope that you’re equally excited.  We can’t wait to finally present the film to everyone and have been overwhelmed by the amount of interest we’ve had so far since announcing the screening a few weeks ago.  If you’ve already signed up on our Eventbrite page, great, but if you haven’t don’t despair because you might still be able to get in just by showing up (or join us for the afterparty at W2).  We know that there are lots of other great Olympic related events going on that day, but we hope that you’ll include us in your schedule.

Here are the details:

  • Saturday February 12th, screening @ 7pm – please arrive early (1/2 hr) to ensure you get a seat and that we can start on time
  • After the film, a Q+A with the filmmakers
  • Afterparty (19+) at W2, the first official event in their new space in Woodward’s!
  • Food supplied by Nuba
  • Screening Address – 149 W Hastings (enter off Cordova) SFU Woodward’s Goldcorp Center for the Arts

We’ll also be hosting our friends from W2, Hope in Shadows, Megaphone Magazine and OpenMedia.ca, as well as raising money for the construction of a wireless mesh network in the DTES

Reserved tickets will be held until 15 minutes before showtime and then released on a first come – first served basis.

If you miss this screening, keep your ears open for other opportunities throughout the coming year, and we’ll keep you posted as well

In the next photos and video,  M.M. learns how to box and do self defense from her loving life partner Dave in the Vancouver Downtown Eastside (DTES). Dave has previous experience as a competitive boxer.

AHA MEDIA recently spoke with Vancouver Police Officer Wes Fung who mentioned he had a friend who trained women in Self Defense.

Some women of LifeSkills Centre have been wishing for some training in Self Defense

Officer Wes Fung has attended many of our social justice classes at LifeSkills Centre and has been a big help in finding solutions to our problems in the Vancouver Downtown Eastside through listening to our concerns through open and honest discusssion.

Below is a photo of  Ping Chan, Member of DNC – Downtown Eastside Neighbourhood Council speaking with Vancouver Police Officer Wes Fung.

Below is a photo of Dave and M.M. sharing a smile!
