B.C.’s iconic restaurant chain has raised more than $105,000 to send kids with special needs to camp

VANCOUVER –August 9, 2011– Back by popular demand, White Spot’s special edition ‘Adult Pirate Paks’ are sailing onto tables August 17 to once again raise money for Zajac Ranch for Children.

To celebrate the fourth annual Pirate Pak Day on Wednesday, August 17, $2 from the sale of each kids and adult Pirate Pak and contributions received in lieu of Pirate Paks will be donated to the Zajac Ranch. Zajac Ranch is a longtime B.C. charity dedicated to giving children with life-threatening illnesses and chronic disabilities an unforgettable summer camp experience.

With more than $105,000 raised over the past three years, White Spot has sent a total of 50 kids to Zajac Ranch since 2008.

“For one day only, adults have the opportunity to be kids again and reminisce about the excitement and magic of childhood dining experiences at White Spot all for a fantastic cause,” said Warren Erhart, president of White Spot. “Last year we raised a record $40,822 in one day. This year we’re hoping to donate even more to Zajac Ranch for Children.”

A traditional White Spot menu favourite since 1968, the Pirate Pak was first created by Nat Bailey to provide a unique dining experience for kids age 10 and under. The children’s Pirate Pak costs $5.99 and is available in a range of delicious options including two slider burgers, a regular hamburger, grilled cheese sandwich, Pirate Pals crispy-coated chicken, macaroni and cheese or lightly battered Pacific Cod. White Spot’s special edition ‘Adult Pak’ will be available Wednesday, August 17 only, and starting at $10.49, features a choice of four mouth-watering burger options including the Legendary Burger, Bacon Cheddar Bigger Burger, Provolone Veggie Burger on a multigrain bun and the BC Chicken Burger. Each meal is served in the iconic boat and comes complete with fresh-cut fries, a soft drink, a scoop of ice cream and a chocolate “gold” coin.

Pirate Pak Facts

Exactly 775,592 Pirate Paks were sold last year.

Since 1968, more than 22 million Pirate Paks have been sold.

With the option of one per cent milk, juice and new sides like veggies and dip, grapes and steamed vegetables, there are more than 675 different Kids Pirate Pak combinations.

The Pirate Pak boat is 100 percent recyclable.

The most popular Pirate Pak item is the Pirate Pak Hamburger made with 100 per cent fresh Canadian beef and famous secret Triple “O” sauce.

Dinner at NEW Save On Meats restaurant with Karen Fung and Raul Pacheco in Vancouver Downtown Eastside (DTES)

July 3, 2011 4 comments

From Save On Meats:

SAVE ON MEATS / A Vancouver Institution for 54 Years

Al DesLauriers opened Save On Meats at 43 West Hastings in 1957 amid the shine of dozens of neon signs up and down what was then considered Vancouver’s main shopping and entertainment district. The famous ‘flying pigs’ were a beacon for customers and a major attraction along Hastings Street.

But while the city grew and other businesses closed down or moved away Save On Meats remained in its original location serving its loyal clientele for the next 54 years.

In 2009 Al retired and the butcher shop was shut, leaving Vancouverites to mourn the loss of Vancouver legend, not to mention one of the best burgers in town.

SCENE Members Across Canada Can Now Redeem Points To Dine Out!

TORONTO, ON – January 28, 2011 – SCENE, the entertainment loyalty program from Cineplex Entertainment (TSX: CGX) and Scotiabank (TSX: BNS), has broadened their partnership with Cara Foods.  The program’s partnership with Cara’s Milestones Grill + Bar restaurant chain, which has been effective in Ontario since March 2010, is now expanding to offer SCENE members in British Columbia and Alberta the opportunity to earn and redeem SCENE points while dining out.

By presenting their SCENE membership card at any one of 40 participating Milestones Grill + Bar locations across Canada, members can:

·         Earn 50 SCENE points for every $10 spent.

·         Redeem 1,250 SCENE points for a $10 discount on their Milestone’s bill.

In addition to expanding its partnership with the Milestones restaurant chain, SCENE is also now offering the ability for its members to redeem points for CARA Bon Appétit e-Gift cards.  Members can visit scene.ca and redeem points online for e-Gift Cards in denominations of $25, $50 and $100.  Accepted at all CARA restaurants including Swiss Chalet, Montana’s, Kelsey’s, Harvey’s and Milestones Grill + Bar, this new reward opens up greater dining possibilities for SCENE members across Canada.

“At SCENE, we are continually looking for partnerships that bring exciting entertainment rewards and experiences to our members,” said Shawn Bloom, General Manager, SCENE. “Our partnership with Milestones in Ontario was extremely successful so it makes perfect sense to expand this benefit to SCENE members in British Columbia and Alberta.  Plus, we’re very excited to offer Bon Appétit e-Gift cards as a new reward option for SCENE members.  Dining rewards are something our member’s value and have told us they’re interested in, so we want them to know that we’re listening and responding! ”

“Our guests recognize us as a place to celebrate life’s milestones – big and small, and we have become the destination for Wednesday Date Night in Canada. We know that dinner and a movie is a classic combination, so by inviting SCENE members to redeem points at our restaurants, guests can have the opportunity to enhance their movie night with a visit to Milestones – it is a natural fit,” said Jeff Stipec, President of Milestones restaurants.  “Ultimately we hope to share our passion for food with new guests, and offer even more reason for returning guests to celebrate their life’s milestones with us.”

Full details on how to earn and redeem points with SCENE at Milestones Grill + Bar locations across Canada are available at www.scene.ca/milestones.
