Vancouver – May 1st thru May3rd, 2009 – The West End Community Centre invites you to Art in the City, a visual art show and sale featuring over 65 local artists from Vancouver, BC and beyond. Admission is free at this three-day event showcasing paintings, drawings, illustrations, pottery, carvings, photography and sculptures by local artists and artisans.

AHA MEDIA discovers UGM Women’s Drop In Centre on Hastings and Princess in Vancouver being demolished!

AHA MEDIA while traveling on the Bus going Eastbound on Hastings Street was surprised to discover the UGM ( Union Gospel Mission) Women’s Centre being demolished!

Sources say that the UGM Women’s Drop In Centre was bulldozed to make way for new supportive women’s housing to be built.

Description:The Women’s Drop-in Centre is open to women and their children, and provides a loving and safe environment for all who visit. Free clothing, personal care items, counselling, referrals and prayer are also offered. Hours are listed above.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, coffee, tea and snacks are provided between 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm, and a hot, nutritious meal is served at 5:00 pm.

AHA MEDIA had a delicious well balanced meal of a lemon dill salmon dinner including dessert for the sum of only $3.00 at Carnegie Centre Cafeteria.

Carnegie Centre is a community centre operated by the City of Vancouver at the corner of Main and Hastings in Vancouver Downtown Eastside (DTES)

With the addition of a bottle of grapefruit juice, the total cost of the meal below was only $4.00!  Much more nutritious and healthy than other options in the area. Very affordable for Vancouver Downtown Eastside residents as Carnegie provides meals that are well-balanced for any diet! 🙂

The Salmon Dinner at Carnegie was well liked judging by others enjoying their dinners in the Cafeteria. The salmon was cooked to perfection, the yukon gold potatoes were just right and the addition of dill to the coleslaw was a very nice touch 🙂
