Based in Vancouver B.C., Building Opportunities with Business (BOB) is a non-profit organization that is championing an inclusive revitalization process for the inner-city that values existing businesses and residents. BOB is a connector, a resource and a facilitator working to: strengthen the inner-city’s community capacity; identify and build on untapped business opportunities; improve employment opportunities and retention; and increase investment in Vancouver’s inner-city.

To further our mission we would like to make available to select partners, individuals, and businesses the main floor of 163 East Pender Street. We hope that this open shared work space can contribute to the revitalization of the inner-city by providing a space for creative professionals to flourish, for ideas to percolate, to cross pollinate, for businesses to grow, a place where stuff gets done.
What we’re offering is a work surface, be it a desk, a chair, a table, a couch, or the bay window, wherever you’re most comfortable.
Of course we’ll offer wi-fi and other niceties such as an electronic white board and a projector to facilitate discussion and creative thinking. There’s a fridge for your food, a microwave, filtered water cooler, and secure storage for your bike.
The price is a flat $200 per month and includes keyless access.
We’re looking for creative professionals, progressive thinkers, the socially responsible and ecologically conscious who want to be surrounded by others of like mind.
Folks who want more than a cubicle and a 9 to 5 and dream of bigger things and a better Vancouver to call home.

AHA MEDIA is proud to present ” It takes a community to raise a garden” by the Green Inner-city Cluster of Building Opportunities with Business (BOB) in Vancouver Downtown Eastside
On October 31st at 10:00 AM, volunteers are gathering at 700 East Hastings and Hawks Avenue in Strathcona to create the raised bed garden boxes necessary to convert five empty asphalt covered lots into an urban garden that will provide food, employment, and training opportunities for inner-city residents.
If you are interested in contributing to the greening of Vancouver’s inner-city we need volunteers and tools and materials, contact Seann Dory of United We Can for the latest list of what we need. Part of this project involves a mural which will include permanent recognition of the groups that made SOLEfood a reality.
This garden raising represents the culmination of months of work by a dedicated subset of the Green Inner-city Cluster. The property belongs to the owner of the Astoria Hotel who is letting us convert it to a garden in exchange for paying the taxes for the next couple years. We need to begin the conversion this month in order to be eligible for lower taxes.
Artist RenderingSave Our Living Environment is a sister organization to United We Can which was selected to be the lead organization for our first grant application. From there we got the name SOLEfood for our first urban agriculture project. ” Block Party” at Hastings Folk Garden in Vancouver Downtown Eastside on August 18 – 19, 2009
Student volunteers are organizing the building of a garden shed out of compressed earth block (CEB).
“We want to give people an opportunity to learn how they can build this way, and also to learn about the great advantages of building with earth. Folks who come out to volunteer with us on Tuesday Aug 18 and Wednesday Aug 19 will be guided through the blending, forming and curing processes of CEB, and can contribute to the Folk Garden by making some earth blocks for its new shed.
After the blocks have been cured for about a week, we will be having another work party to assemble the building… there will be another announcement for that next week.
We are doing this project with the support of The Hastings Folk Garden Society and Building Opportunity for Business, in part as a way to investigate the possibility of developing this technology as a new branch of social enterprise in the Downtown Eastside.
