  • Jane’s Tea House in Chinatown will be hosting a photographer’s meetup for photographers of Chinatown!
    •  19:00 until 21:00

This event will feature Chinatown photographers showcasing and talking about their photographs and will have time for a model photoshoot.

If you have taken photographs of Chinatown and would like to share them with fellow Chinatown photographers, feel free to join in! If you are just interested to see some of the photographs of Chinatown, please also come on down! It’ll be a great time and hope you can come out!

    Fee: $5 – to cover tea 🙂

If you would like to present your photographs, I recommend the following guidelines:

    0) Recommend bringing photos in JPG format on a USB stick. Have a backup SD card maybe just in case! Prints are also fine to share 🙂

    1) Prepare to tell us who you are, what you do and why you photograph Chinatown.

    2) Prepare a few photographs to share and perhaps talk about them. Depending on amount of people and time, recommend sharing up to 10-15 photographs.

    3) No stealing of other’s photos please! Bring and take home your own work! 😉

    4) This will not be an open critique session (although you can discuss critiques in private with the photographer). We are here to share our passion for Chinatown and it’s people!

Event Details

Stolen sandwich boards, smashed windows, customers being accosted and intimidated outside restaurants, reading the newspapers these days one can’t help but ask “What’s this city coming to?”

There’s more to the story than this though.

Come learn how DTES residents, businesses, social enterprises and community orgs are coming together in the Downtown Eastside to collaborate on keeping our streets safer and cleaner. Why? Because we care about one another and we have community pride. This free information session and networking event will take place Wednesday April 3rd at 5:30 PM at Lost and Found Cafe, 33 W Hastings Street.

Presentations will be given by:

Mission Possible (MP Neighbours)– regarding the innovative community safety patrols that have been creating jobs for residents with barriers to employment. The team at MP Neighbours liaise regualarly with businesses, residents, visitors to our area and the City about safety trends and provide a culturally appropriate alternative to more heavy handed types of security. You’ll hear some heartfelt examples of a regular day on the job and see some incredibly insightful data about the area.

Judy McGuire, Executive Director, Inner-City Safety Society– about the research and projects that the Safety Society is engaging in over the year to come. From disaster preparedness to Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design, the ICSS is concerned with the safety, preparedness and wellbeing of those who live and work in the DTES.

Constable Wes Fung, Vancouver Police Department– Come hear Wes Fung’s perspective on crime and safety in the area. Wes has served the community for several years and has a wealth of insight from an officer who has seen it all.
