Defend the DTES Oppenheimer District and
MAKE THE DTES A SOCIAL JUSTICE ZONE

Friday January 11
2pm
Oppenheimer Park Field House
*Tea and light snack available*

For the last year members of the DTES low-income community have been involved in a city planning process to chart out a future for the Downtown Eastside. Meanwhile condos, high-end boutiques and architecture and other studios have been encroaching on the DTES Oppenheimer District – the heart of the low-income communities.

Come to this meeting to learn about the Oppenheimer district (which you may live in and not even know it), to strategize how to fight to defend this neighbourhood as a predominately and majority low-income community, and to vision what a Social Justice Zone might look like in the city of Vancouver.

Organized by members of the City’s Local Area Planning Process Committee

24th Oppenheimer Park Christmas Dinner

Saturday, December 22nd, 2012 12:00 Noon

In 1988 The Oppenheimer Park Christmas Dinner began and in 1992 the Oppenheimer Park Christmas fund was created. Over our two-decade history we’ve served over 3,000 meals each and every year, and created a very special Christmas tradition in the Downtown Eastside, complete with a visit from Santa and small gifts including new socks, gloves and packages of toiletries. This has been accomplished with the support of hundreds of volunteers, as well as donations of cash and services from the film industry community and local businesses. This year we need your help again and hope you can join us!

The last few years have been particularly challenging. As the financial climate changes, especially in our industry, it has become harder for supporters to maintain their contributions at the levels of prior years. Last year, through our “digital launch” and the addition of Paypal, we were very fortunate to obtain the support of more individuals and several new suppliers and were able to run the event at the same scale as prior years – complete with all the special extras. We hope that this year will repeat that same level of sponsorship and support!

* THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND HAVE A WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS *

Oppenheimer Park Community Art Project Fundraiser in Vancouver Downtown Eastside (DTES)

October 13, 2012 Leave a comment

Community Art Project Fundraiser: In addition to regular supplies for applied art programs at Oppenheimer, we will supply small wooden block canvasses for participants to donate art for the fundraiser. Participants willing to donate their work to our fundraiser will be supporting local artists in the community. Through sales of these small paintings, prints, collage, text, drawings, etc. during the Gachet & Oppenheimer Park Community Art Show opening reception (as well as the sales from the Art Cart) we hope to raise the money needed to support a regular slot for the Art Cart/artists at the Sunday Downtown Eastside Neighbourhood (DNC) Street Market & Fairs.
